China's national badminton team claimed three titles at the Japan Badminton Open 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday. With a perfect finale, the Chinese national team is coming back to China for the 2025 China Open.
In the mixed doubles final match, Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin defended their title against Thai athletes Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran with a 2-1 victory.
During the women's doubles final match, Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning defeated Tan Pearly and Thinaah Muralitharan from Malaysia 21-15 and 21-14. The duo successfully defended their title.
China's top men's singles player Shi Yuqi snatched victory from French defending champion Alex Lanier 21-17, 21-15 in the men's singles final match.
After the mixed doubles match win, Wei said that the duo had not expected to win the title before they left for Tokyo.
"[I] didn't expect that we could play all five sessions and win the final. It was actually a pleasant surprise. I think today's game was quite enjoyable. Both sides played very well and played to our full potential," said Wei during an interview with the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
She also said that during a break in the middle of the second game, they clarified tactics and the adjustment helped them to win.
With scores of 21-19, 16-21, 21-15 in the final, Jiang and Wei managed to defend their title. For Jiang and Wei, this is their second title of the season, ending a four-game losing streak against Thai the team of Dechapol and Supissara.
Liu analyzed that "the women's doubles in the world are constantly improving, and we also need to improve through every tournament. To reach the final, everyone was in good shape and well prepared. To win the game, we had to be more fully prepared and have ways to constantly solve problems on the spot."
Moreover, Shi said that the title was not an easy win.
"For each serve, we had multiple shots, which made it difficult to score. The entire game consumed a lot of energy," he recalled.
Shi confirmed that the title definitely helps with their self-confidence, noting that he will continue to "keep working hard."
Dozens of followers congratulated Shi, saying he should take a great break and they look forward to his performance at the upcoming 2025 China Open in Changzhou, East China's Jiangsu Province, from Tuesday to Sunday.
For Shi, this was his first title won at the Japan Badminton Open. The victory has also given him a perfect finale with a 100 percent winning streak this season.
