Recently, a café called "The Bean House Coffee" run by a post-90s entrepreneur,Liu Shu, has unexpectedly gained popularity. According to media reports, on weekend mornings, numerous elderly customers have been seen purchasing coffee drinks at the entrance of a fresh market in Suzhou's Gusu district, East China's Jiangsu Province.
The shop specializes in innovative "vegetable + coffee" combinations, such as a 23-yuan carrot soy latte and a 16-yuan orange Americano, with daily sales exceeding 100 cups.
Run by Liu, the coffee shop has built a loyal customer base since opening four months ago. Located at the entrance of a traditional fresh market, it operates from 8:00 am to 8:30 pm. Ingredients, including organic carrots and seasonal oranges, are sourced directly from vendors on the market's second floor.
Market managers revealed that this is the first coffee shop introduced after the market's renovation, boosting foot traffic in the area. A 77-year-old regular commented that she has visited the café 3 to 4 times a week, enjoying the carrot soy latte in particular.
Li Ming, a sociology professor at Suzhou University, sees this as a sign of evolving community commerce, blending new consumer trends with traditional market life to meet the elderly's demand for quality living.
